ELECTRIC CITY ARTICLE  7/24/03
Filmmakers shooting "Head Trauma" on location in Scranton and Tobyhanna this summer and fall. The creative team scouted approximately 60 abandoned properties in Scranton before finally settling on a multi-storied home in the city's Hill Section. They felt that in addition to good light and a hilltop perch, the structure had the right feel for the mood of the film. When George returns to repair and sell the property after a 20-year absence, he finds the house damaged by general neglect as well as the squatters that have occupied it.
"It's kind of haunting when you go into a place and it has remnants of other people who have left in a hurry for one reason or another," shared Weiler. "I don't know if you ever saw a movie called Seven, but some of the places we went into had that kind of feeling to them."
The title, "Head Trauma," intentionally makes multiple references.
Head Trauma will utilize a hybrid scripted, improvised dialogue style developed by the filmmaker in his first feature film The Last Broadcast. Co-authored and co-directed with Stefan Avalos, Lance Weiler shares the considerable credit for making the first digital feature film (Wired). He further shares a "footnote in cinematic history" for being the first distributor to release a film to theaters via satellite for digital projection. George Lucas, he informed, followed suit nine months later. Speaking in a relaxed voice, the youthful director spoke of his considerable accomplishments in an understated manner. One could detect only the slightest smile of pride in his voice as he mentioned the citation he received in Wired magazine as one of 25 people helping to bring Hollywood into the 21st Century.
Thrilled with the cooperation, interest and support they've received from the City of Scranton, Weiler and Stefanic fully intend "to embrace the community" during the making of Head Trauma. One of their first steps was to hold a casting call on Tuesday at the Diva Theater. Among the 12 parts that Weiler and Stefanic hoped to fill were a few they consider principal roles. Stefanic confirmed that he is also open to hiring crew members from the area, as long as they have film production experience.
"I would rather work with people here than bring people in from the outside," he explained to e.c.. According to Weiler, they've already got contributors from Austin, Texas, San Francisco, New York City, as well as Philadelphia.
"I think it will be interesting for people to see (the results) because in the movie, it's not necessarily Scranton," suggested Weiler. "The town is kind of ambiguous. It doesn't really have a name. Obviously it's going to feel East Coast based, and somewhere where there are mountains, but the idea is to try and make it feel timeless and that it could be anywhere."

"PEARL" REVIEW:

The Key : Drama at Its Best!

By Nicole Barrasse

As the evening drew out, the play On the Edge by Nancy Hasty was a huge success, selling out every seat that the production staff could possibly fit in Brooks Theater at Keystone.. The grand  finale of  the play was Pearl, a provocative and passionate piece that Nancy Hasty is still writing.

Brandee Sanders, who starred in Pearl, has worked with Hasty before in her play Under the Lackawanna Moon and has played many roles in plays at Marywood University and independent films in NYC and Los Angeles as well. Sanders was captivating and thrilling playing Pearl, a mother and wife struggling with her own insanity. After being enlightened by a Baptist preacher, Brother Ralph, played by Dane Bower, Pearl has seen the Lord and has found spiritual truth; yet, the characters like her daughter, Liddie, played by Ashley Jennings, are still afflicted with the intricacy of Pearl and her mind. The ending of On the Edge was astonishing with the closing of Pearl. The Keystone players and the crew were committed in making On the Edge successful, and they achieved their goal tremendously. “It has been such a great experience here for me. Keystone has treated with me with such love and value, I can't say enough about how wonderful I have been treated. I have seen such great talent, commitment, and kindness here at Keystone,” Hasty remarked. On the Edge resembled the truth and beauty that people have within in them, much like those who helped

make the production become a complete success for all to remember.
